Fiesta!

My first intention when we started our Countries and Cultures study was to finish the week with a project and a meal from whatever country we had studied that week. After week two I realized that it was just too much! So instead we decided to have a party whenever we finished touring a continent. We'd pick one project and plan our menu - trying to feature at least one recipe from each country we had studied.

So, to wrap up or study of Central and South America we had a fiesta! TJ and I made a (very simple) pinata and we spent a day in the kitchen making lots of yummy foods.

Some of our tasty food - empanadas with chimichurri sauce, Mexican red rice, and alfajores for dessert.

Mid-Week Weekly Report?

I didn't get a weekly report up last week but wanted to post a quick recap of our work. TJ's been chugging right along with school - her handwriting is improving, her reading skills are great and she's loving her new math workbook. We are having a blast with our Countries and Cultures study - we've started working our way through Africa.

But we're really not spending a lot of time with school because we've been doing lots of this:

And the dog has been doing lots of this:

I finally got my pictures uploaded so I'll be posting this afternoon about our South American Fiesta!

Weekly Report

Blogging has been on the back burner for awhile but I thought I'd come back and do a quick update on our progress with school. TJ is doing very well in all her subjects - I'm especially impressed with her progress in reading and math. Completing school takes us about an hour each day so we've got lots of time for other fun projects and activities.

Math: We've completed RightStart A and I wanted to take a break from that program before starting level B. TJ is still young and I don't want to rush through the next level and then find that she isn't ready for some of the material. So after looking over a few different programs I purchased Horizons K for her to work on. I just wanted something that would work as a filler and she absolutely loves it! She's completed 22 lessons already.

Reading: She is doing such a fantastic job! We were having a Bible study with my in-laws a few weeks ago and my father-in-law had TJ in his lap and he asked her to read a verse. After stumbling over a few large words she read the whole thing. The grandparents were very impressed and think that she's a genius, of course! :) We're still using The Ordinary Parent's Guide and it's going very well.

In other news - TJ and Nick are having fun with their MFW activities and we're having a great time with our Countries and Cultures study. We wrapped up our study of South America with a fiesta - more on that in another post. All other subjects - french, science activities, handwriting, music, etc. are all going well.
